More than 80 participants from Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina gathered on Monday, February 26, for a study visit to the social tourism enterprise “Avlija Sustainable Development” in Bogatić and the Special Nature Reserve “Zasavica” in Zasavica.
The Special Nature Reserve “Zasavica” stands as one of the best-maintained nature reserves in Serbia, focusing its tourist offerings on the study, protection, and promotion of unique natural values. During the tour, visitors were acquainted with Zasavica’s biodiversity by Mihajlo Stanković, a specialist and researcher at the reserve.
“Avlija Sustainable Development” is a company for the professional rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities, engaging in agriculture and rural tourism as sources of financial sustainability for the social services they offer. The enterprise was founded by Caritas Šabac. Miroljub Nikolić, the director of Caritas Šabac, and Milan Damnjanović, the mayor of Bogatić, extended their warm welcome to the visitors.
The aim of this study visit was to showcase the possibilities of tourism based on harmony with nature and inclusive of socially vulnerable groups, using these exemplary practices.
This study visit is part of the project “Eco Tourism in the Cross-Border Area between Serbia and BiH: Cross border BIRDWATCHING” implemented by Caritas Šabac in partnership with the Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia and the Red Cross of the Tuzla Canton.
