Within the project “Museum Stories”, the exhibition “Women in Art” was opened at the Sarajevo City Hall. The exhibition was opened by Milan Trivic, Deputy Mayor of Sarajevo.
Works by modern paintings and photographs were presented within the exhibition. Works of Mr Snežana Nešković Simić, Snježana Vlatković, M.Sc. Katarina Grujovic Brkovic, and legate Nadezda Vitorovic are the main content of the exhibition.
The exhibition will be open until March 27, 2020.
This exhibition enabled museums from Western Serbia to be presented in Sarajevo. The exhibition is presented through three thematic and author sections.
The first part of the exhibition is THE STONE MONUMENT – a symbol of the duration and deep respect of women in the 19th Century, authored by Katarina Grujovic Brkovic, director of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments of Kraljevo. The exhibit presents monuments in stone and the focus is a woman.
The second part is the paintings of Nadezda Vitorovic, a painter from Priboj, which work became famous in the world, creating in the second half of the 20th century. She has bequeathed her works at her hometown and they are kept at the Museum of Priboj. Nadezda Vitorovic painted in the spirit of modernism, composing various elements, almost surrealistically, providing a personal vision of the world.
The third part of the exhibition is the work of two artists Mr Snežana Nešković Simić and Snježana Vlatković. They present works each with own poetics and expression; both inspired by nature, they have a lot of knowledge and work experience. They achieve the symbiosis of nature and their beings in constant search and discovery in different paths.
This joint exhibition shows that there is no discrepancy, and the final goal is to represent women in the arts at this and past time.
