The Head of the Department for Cooperation of the Delegation of the European Union in Serbia, Nikola Bertolini, conducted a two-day visit to the western part of Serbia on October 12th, 2022. The visit started with a meeting with the mayor of Užice, Jelena Raković Radivojević, , with whom he toured the facility of the Dispensary for Lung Diseases and Tuberculosis in this city. The reconstruction of the dispensary worth 440,000 euros is planned, which the European Union will support with 180,000 euros through the EU PRO Plus program.
The visit also included a tour of the Duboko regional sanitary landfill, which has been operating successfully since 2011 with the support of the EU and covers nine local governments.
Within the Cross-border Cooperation Program Serbia – Bosnia and Herzegovina, the European Union supported the work of the landfill through 3 projects with a total value of 1,605,085 euros. PUK “Duboko” was equipped with two trucks (an auto-lifter and a garbage truck), a press for baling recyclable raw materials, a mobile crusher, a Grab crane for bulky waste loading, 57 containers (volumes from 1.1 to 7 m3), 5,168 bins (volumes of 120 and 240l) and 300 composters.
Bertolini was familiar with the work of PUC “Duboko”, and achieved project results, as well as plans for business improvement. A short presentation of the European Union’s support to the municipal sector of Užice was presented within the Educational Center for Municipal Waste Management. The visit ended with a tour of the Selection Center and sanitary landfill.
