Autonomous Province of Vojvodina, Srem District, Municipalities of Šid, Ruma, Irig, Inđija, Stara Pazova, Pećinci and the City of Sremska Mitrovica. Tuzla Canton, Posavina Canton, Central Bosnia Canton, Canton Sarajevo and Zenica-Doboj Canton and the Municipalities of Orašje, Kiseljak, Novi Grad Sarajevo, Vareš and the City of Gradačac
Target groups: 60 local Red Cross mobile team members from 12 municipalities in the cross-border region (7 in Srem district and 5 in 5 BH cantons of Tuzla Canton, Posavina Canton, Central Bosnia Canton, Canton Sarajevo and Zenica-Doboj Canton);

720 elderly persons undergoing preventive check-ups and their family members in Srem district and 5 BIH cantons (360 at info days, 360 at health prevention days)

Commencement date and project duration: February 01st 2023, 18 months
Overall objective: To contribute to the improvement of general health of elderly citizens by increasing accessibility to basic health-preventive services in rural areas of the cross-border region between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina
Specific objective(s) or project purpose: To upgrade existing health-preventive services for elderly citizens by improving their efficiency and comprehensiveness according to present needs in Srem District and Tuzla Canton, Posavina Canton, Central Bosnia Canton, Canton Sarajevo and Zenica-Doboj Canton
Estimated results: 1.1. New standardized health-preventive services for elderly citizens in rural areas created

Achieved results:

The project  significantly improved access to basic health services for elderly citizens living in rural areas.

Key results achieved include:

  • Improved access to preventive health services for elderly people in rural cross-border communities.

  • A specialized training curriculum developed and four training sessions conducted, strengthening the capacities of 60 members of 12 local mobile teams for fieldwork.

  • Mobile teams equipped with essential medical and field equipment to provide services in remote areas.

  • Four vehicles procured (two per country) to ensure mobility and outreach of mobile health teams in rural communities.

  • More than 2,600 preventive health examinations conducted, including checks of blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and triglycerides.

  • Increased awareness among elderly citizens about preventive healthcare, nutrition, physical activity, and mental health.
