Overall objective: Promotion of  cross border approach to biodiversity protection and establishment of joint measures and  management solution for protected areas and natural preserves

Activities and expected results of the project

 

RESULT NO. 1:  Established institutional infrastructure for monitoring and protection of natural heritage in the cross-border area

       Activity no. 1.1: Establishment of a joint Research and Ecology Centre (JREC) with an area for exhibition and tourist information       Activity no. 1.2: Purchasing of Equipment for Research and Ecology Centre

       Activity no. 1.3: Designing of strategic documents and management plan for Research and Ecology Center (MAP)

       Activity no. 1.4: Creating cross border educational and exhibition programs for the Centre (JREC) and each protected area

       Activity no. 1.5: Development and improvement of tourism related attractions and offers in BIH

       Activity no. 1.6: Development and improvement of tourism related attractions and offers in protected areas in Serbia

       Activity no. 1.7: Establishment of a cross border and intersectoral focus network for development of cross border tourism offers with focus on nature and biodiversity friendly, green and sustainable tourism

 RESULT NO. 2 : Human capacities are strengthened

       Activity no. 2.1: Education programs on the theme of prevention and protection of nature and active involvement of local inhabitants, entrepreneurs and companies – definition of potential roles and responsibilities for tourism development

Achieved results:
  • Joint measures and solutions for management of protected areas and nature reserves were developed for the cross-border area, including Sutjeska National Park, Special Nature Reserve Mileševska Reka, Zlatibor Nature Park, Kamena Gora, and Ozren-Jadovnik
  • A Centre for Scientific Research and Ecology was established and equipped as a modern educational and research facility
  • Educational trails in protected areas were maintained and improved
  • A Botanical Garden was established in Tjentište, contributing to biodiversity promotion and education
  • Four project studies were developed, including studies on cross-border tourism cooperation, mapping of natural areas, joint monitoring systems, and educational programmes
  • Mapped areas with specific natural characteristics improved the basis for environmental monitoring and sustainable tourism planning
  • A joint monitoring plan for protected areas in the cross-border region was created
  • Educational and exhibition programmes for the Centre for Research and Ecology were developed
  • Two exhibitions of natural heritage and micro-destinations were organized, accompanied by lectures on biodiversity and environmental protection
  • Two regional conferences and two round tables on biodiversity protection and environmental improvement were organized
  • Human capacities of partner institutions and stakeholders were strengthened through training and networking activities
  • Awareness-raising campaigns on environmental protection were implemented, with special focus on children and youth in the cross-border area
  • The project contributed to strengthening biodiversity protection, sustainable tourism, and regional cooperation in protected natural areas
