Banovići, 24 June 2025 – With the evocative echoes of steam locomotives and the spirit of mining heritage, the town of Banovići proudly unveiled a permanent multimedia exhibition titled “Banovićka Ćirolija”. Merging innovation with tradition, this modern museum offers a dynamic journey through the industrial and cultural history of the region, brought to life through cutting-edge technology.
The exhibition was developed within the project “Old Railways for New Cooperation and Experiences”, supported by the European Union through the IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Serbia–Bosnia and Herzegovina 2014–2020. It reflects a successful partnership between institutions from both countries, aimed at preserving shared heritage and fostering sustainable development.
At the opening ceremony, the Mayor of Banovići, Dr Mehmed Hasanović, addressed the audience:
“This exhibition is a truly valuable addition to our municipality. Through projects like this, we do more than preserve our mining and railway past—we lay the foundation for future cultural and economic opportunities.”
He also announced future plans:
“In the coming period, we intend to launch at least two more projects related to tourism and cross-border cooperation, further positioning Banovići as a destination rich in cultural and historical offerings.”
Speakers included representatives of key institutions supporting local development. Ms Mojica Krisper Figueroa from the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina emphasized the importance of regional cooperation and cultural preservation, while Mr Anel Hrnjić of the Directorate for European Integration of BiH highlighted the impact of EU funds in creating tangible, cross-regional initiatives.
Mr Bratislav Dobrić, project manager, spoke about the project’s implementation and achievements, followed by Ms Alisa Gekić, director of the LINK Entrepreneurship Center, who underscored the importance of educational spaces that connect youth with their historical roots and future aspirations.
The project was jointly implemented by Business Innovation Programs (Serbia), LINK Entrepreneurship Center (BiH), Municipality of Banovići, and FORCA (Serbia).
With the opening of “Banovićka Ćirolija”, Banovići reaffirms its commitment to transforming industrial heritage into a vibrant platform for tourism, education, and cultural enrichment.
