Activities and results of the project
One of the most advanced systems for primary selection of solid waste was introduced in Tuzla and Užice. Students from Tuzla and Užice participated in the project activities. Schools organized quizzes and the best students got to participate in eco-camps that took place on Tara Mountain for primary schools and in Ormanica for secondary schools.
The model of primary selection included solid waste that can usually be found in schools and included four groups: paper and cardboard, aluminum cans, pet and plastic and mixed waste. Different waste goes to different bins marked with different colors. Public utility companies transport such selected waste to the selection centers.
School kids were selected for the project because good or bad habits are formed at early age. Kids properly trained will become adults to care more of the environment.
The project included around 20.000 students and around 1.000 employees in primary and secondary schools in Užice and Tuzla. Public Utility Companies in two cities purchased a specialized trucs for transport of the selected waste, plus 500 waste bins and two tons of waste bags.
During nine months collected paper saved 133 trees, 233.184 liters of water and 32.873,4 KW of electric energy. With collected aluminum cans 1.043,6 kg of bauxite ore and 1.826 KW of electric energy were saved. With collected plastic and pet 217.590 KW of electric energy was saved. Overall, project decreased use of fossil fuels and made steps toward environment protection.
