Eco-tourism and birdwatching have become new drivers of sustainable development in the cross-border area between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina! Thanks to this project, which linked nature conservation with the economic empowerment of vulnerable groups, new birdwatching routes have been established, guides have been trained, and the “Bird’s Nest” brand has been launched as a symbol of new opportunities for local communities.
During the project:
• Two new birdwatching routes were established in Lower Drina (Serbia) and Konjuh (BiH),
• The first birdwatching guidebook for this area was created,
• 40 birdwatching guides and 30 eco-product producers were trained,
• A total of 6 info boards were installed at key locations,
• The “Bird’s Nest” brand with eco-products was launched,
• A cross-border cooperation network was established,
• Study visits and promotional campaigns were organized.
Thanks to the support of local tourism organizations, the birdwatching routes are already included in official tourism offers, while the trained guides and producers continue their work beyond the project’s completion.
The final conference of the project “Eco-tourism in the Cross-border Area between Serbia and BiH: Cross-border Birdwatching” was held on April 29, 2025, in Bogatić, marking the culmination of two years of work.
The project was led by Caritas Šabac in partnership with the Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia and the Red Cross of Tuzla Canton.
