The specific objectives of the project: To promote environmental awareness on sustainable water use and protection at municipal level through the cross border cooperation
Activities and results of the project
Municipalities Ub and Istočno Sarajevo managed to improve the quality and maintenance of the plumbing and sewerage system in the local communities, through the exchange of their expert knowledge and experience.
Modern equipment was procured and it enabled the utility service company from Ub detection of plumbing defects, which decreased the water loss for 20-30% on the territory of Ub municipality.
Utility Service Company in Istočno Sarajevo acquired a special vehicle which has been used to remove barriers in the sewerage.
Raising awareness of the importance of the sensible usage of water resources, need to decrease negative effects of pollution originating from the city sewerage to the health of people was the base of the public campaigns organised under the project activities. The campaigns involved the primary and secondary schools, rural and Roma population.
The promotional campaign started at the beginning of the projects. More than 3500 brochures, 2000 leaflets, 500 brochures, and promotional posters ware prepared and distributed for that purpose. Promotional material was shared at six workshops in primary and two workshops in high schools, at the celebration of World Water Day and Day of Environmental protection. Also, an active media campaign was carried out during the whole project period.
The project resolved big and daily problems of the citizen and established an intensive cooperation among almost all institutions of these two municipalities, which was crowned with the act of twinning.
