Activities and results of the project
The project was focused on raising the awareness and building local capacity in the City of Bijeljina and Municipality of Bogatic to increase energy efficiency and sustainable concept for use of renewable energy.
During project implementation natural resources-the potential for renewable energy were identified.
Through the project were developed and adopted the feasibility studies for use of Renewable Energy Sources for municipalities Bijeljina and Bogatic .The representatives of local administration, students and farmers were trained and met the Gusing model of good practice related to use of renewable energy and energy efficiency. During the trainings and study visits for more than 300 youth representatives, agricultural farms and local government representatives have contributed to the better understanding of RES through learning about the experiences of partners from Austria, Municipality of Gussing.
Also, the primary school “Vuk Karadzic” building was reconstructed from the aspect of using RES and energy efficiency. Furthermore, the energy consumption was reduced in primary school by 35%. Three Public solar-powered chargers “Solar Trees” were installed in two municipalities and the old mercury lamps which used in public lighting in the main street in Bijeljina were replaced with LED lamps- thus saved up to 95% of energy for the same degree of lighting.
The basic aim of this project was protecting the environment in the cross-border region through reinforcement of the energy efficiency and usage of the renewable energy resources. Two
Municipalities which have high level of agriculture are enabled to use “green energy”, produced from biomass, which is essentially the waste from the agricultural land.
