Activities and results of the project
Contemporary way of living and long time spent in seated position in front of computer and TV, along the luck of physical activity are major causes of the postural disorders and spinal problems. The research indicated that almost 80% of school children have some type of spinal disorder which affects their motor and functional abilities.
Partners from Srem County and Sarajevo Canton initiated project for the improvement of the postural and spinal column disorders in children age 5 to 12, this period in development being the most critical for the creation of deformities.
Pediatricians, physiatrists, and other experts warn that timely diagnosis and physical activity adapted to child’s age is of importance for the prevention of deformities. However, prior to the project body posture has been estimated with the methods that are often not precise and very subjective. This is why a special equipment has been purchased during the project that has an ability to very precisely discover deformities at early stages. If discovered than deformities may be corrected with proper exercises.
During the project trainings were organized, initially for experts on the use of the equipment and later on for parents, doctors, and physical education teachers, all in order to discover problems in timely manner and prevent further deformities.
Children in schools and kindergartens in two cross border areas were examined, total of 1610 of them using new equipment, data was analyzed and suggestions were made for exercises and activities. Project created contemporary, efficient and self-sustainable system for early detection and prevention of deformities which should become standardized for children examination in both countries.
