Eco-tourism and birdwatching in the cross-border region of Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina have received a significant boost through a two-year project that combined natural beauty, biodiversity protection, and the development of local communities. Through numerous activities, new maps, routes, trainings, and services were created to enrich the tourist offer of the Protected Landscape Konjuh and Lower Podrinje.
The project was implemented by Caritas Šabac in partnership with the Bird Protection and Study Society of Serbia and the Red Cross of Tuzla Canton.
During the project:
-
Visits and field research were organized, based on which birdwatching maps and routes were developed;
-
Six informational boards were installed, providing details about key bird species and birdwatching trails;
-
A press trip for media representatives was organized;
-
Trainings were held for 40 birdwatching guides and 30 socially vulnerable individuals for the production of birdhouses and bird food packaging.
Special focus was placed on involving the local community and creating opportunities for social entrepreneurship. Training participants were provided with sets of tools and materials to continue their work after the project ended.
The final conference of the project was held on April 24, 2025, in Tuzla, where all achieved results were presented to the public.
