On Earth Day 22.04.2013 primary school “Mejdan”, in cooperation with the PUC Komunalac and the Centre for Environment and Energy, has announced the introduction of the primary selection of waste (paper, plastic and aluminum cans) in your school.
On this occasion, in the Elementary School “Mejdan” for students, teachers and guests organized an educational event on the importance of the primary selection of waste in schools.
At the event it was pointed out that the primary selection and recycling is preventive solution to the problem of irregular accumulation and disposal of waste in BiH. According to Environmental Strategy of FBiH 2008 – 2018, on the territory of the Federationt here is about 2000 sites “illegal” dumps, mostly in the Zenica-Doboj and Tuzla Canton.
Although it is known that over 80% of municipal waste can be recycled, in BiH is recycled only 10%, so most of all waste ends up in wild and urban landfills, posing a danger to people, animals and the environment in general.
According to the EU plan, until 2020, 50% of municipal waste should be recycled, and it is essential to start with education and primary selection of waste in schools.
Activities for collection of recyclable materials in elementary school “Mejdan” are part of the project “Establishment of the primary waste selection of 28 schools in Uzice and Tuzla”, which is part of the Cross-border Programme Serbia & Bosnia and Herzegovina, financed by the IPA, in Tuzla implement it PUC Komunalac and the Centre for Environment and Energy.
