Project objective
\nThe overall objective of the project is the protection of traditional food and
\nhandcrafts in accordance with EU standards and their wider regional visibility.
\nThe project aims to renew old customs and traditions in the targeted
\ncross-border area, increase sales, provide possibilities for access to new markets
\nand develop an attractive tourist offer.
\nActivities
\nThe project involves four main groups of activities: mapping and analysis
\nof traditional products and key stakeholders that could support the development
\nof typical products; support to producers of traditional products
\nvia trainings, a study trip to Bosnia and Herzegovina, creation of a
\ntouristic guide, workshops, creation of an action and marketing plan; and
\npromotional activities including a final conference and an exhibition of
\ntraditional products. Trainings emphasizing the significance of protected
\ngeographical origin and benefits of marketing and promotion contribute
\nto increased capacities of producers and their associations and define
\ncommon objectives and strategic directions for further development of
\nselected products.<\/p>\n

During the visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina producers learned about
\nexamples of best practice from traditional cheese producers. This
\ntransfer of knowledge enabled them to valorise and develop traditional
\nproducts, as well as to initiate protection procedures according
\nto EU standards. The best 30 producers will exhibit their traditional
\nfoods and handcrafts at the final project event.
\nImproved cooperation and capacities of associations and producers of
\ntraditional products create favourable conditions for long term development.
\nThere is a substantial interest and demand on local and regional
\nmarkets and customers are ready to pay a higher price for these
\nproducts. Traditional food and handcrafts are first class products: specific,
\ndifferent and seen as guarantors of high quality, origin and tradition.
\nProtecting them is crucial because they are an important cultural
\nand regional resource.
\nThe project activities will raise productivity and the economic and tourism
\ndevelopment potential, contribute to environmental protection,
\nprovide opportunities for further rural development and improvement
\nof living standards of the target population.<\/p>\n
