Project objective
\nThe project aims to enhance cooperation among farmers from four municipalities
\nand to improve conditions for fruit growing by forming experimental
\nraspberry plantations and improving existing ones.
\nActivities
\nProject activities were initiated at introductory lectures held by experts on
\nthe topics of intensive and environmentally friendly production of berrylike
\nfruit. The experts provided support to growers from four Municipalities
\nwhich participated in the project \u2013 Arilje, \u010cajetina, Sokolac and Isto\u010dni
\nStari Grad. They covered the topics related to contemporary trends in the
\nproduction of berrylike fruit, cultivars and latest technology for the formation
\nof experimental raspberry plantations.
\nFollowing these lectures, farmers prepared their land for experimental
\nraspberry plantations. Project experts selected 30 locations in Serbia and
\nBosnia and Herzegovina with the greatest potential for successful formation
\nof experimental raspberry plantations.<\/p>\n

Herzegovina
\nwas completed in April 2011 using the Willamette cultivars. In
\nthe Republic of Serbia, existing plantations were improved and used
\nto perform experiments for berrylike fruit production in semi-closed
\nspaces. Experts regularly visited the plantations and advised the growers
\nabout necessary measures and activities for further care of the plantations.
\nIn mid July 2011, about 30 growers from Isto\u010dni Stari Grad and Sokolac
\nMunicipalities visited their counterparts in Arilje and \u010cajetina Municipalities
\nto gain practical experience in raspberry growing and harvesting
\nmethods. In October 2011, a joint study tour to the Republic of
\nSlovenia was organised during which the farmers learned about experiences
\nin intensive and environmentally friendly berrylike fruit production
\nand about examples of good practice from Slovenia. In Spring
\n2012, an exchange visit will be organized between farmers from two
\nSerbian municipalities and farmers from two Bosnia and Herzegovina
\nmunicipalities. Finally, the end of the project will be marked by the
\n\u201cRaspberry Days\u201d fair, which will be announced on the project website
\nwww.malinacbc.arilje.org.rs.
\nCooperation among project partners was excellent and it continues
\nto improve. A twinning charter signed in May 2011 confirmed the cooperation
\nbetween Municipalities of Sokolac and Arilje. In addition an
\nagreement was reached for joint participation on a new project proposal
\nwhich will be submitted within the 2nd Call for Proposals of the
\nIPA Cross-Border Programme Serbia – Bosnia and Herzegovina.<\/p>\n
