Helsinki Committee for Human Rights in Republika Srpska and Center for Equitable Regional Development from Belgrade have started the research on the efficiency of local mechanisms for improvement of state of young people in the cross border region between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina in August this year. The aim of the research is to provide an overall and objective review of what the Youth Commissions/Youth Offices in 16 municipalities/cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia have accomplished so far, but also to examine the harmonization of their work with the basic needs of youth in local communities and to define possible solutions for improvement of their work in future.

The process of collecting data on the effectiveness of these bodies and their adjustment to the needs of youth is in progress and has been performed through interviews with coordinators of Youth Commissions/Youth Offices and by means of surveys among the secondary school students from 16 selected municipalities/cities in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia. Besides, the survey will incorporate the analysis of adoption and implementation of Youth Strategies/Local Action Plans, as well as the analysis of visibility of Youth Commissions/Youth Offices. The results of the research will be published in November 2013.

This research is one activity within the project “Youth – Most Important Driving Engine of Our Region”, which has been realized within the IPA Cross-border Program between Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project is funded by Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Serbia and Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina.
